JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Two former employees of the Mississippi Department of Transportation have been indicted on embezzlement charges after authorities say they misused gift cards that belonged to the department.

The Clarion Ledger reports the cards were incentives for schools.

The Mississippi attorney general’s office says 49-year-old Jarrod Wayne Ravencraft of Jackson, who was the transportation department spokesman, is accused of misusing more than $10,000 in gift cards between June 2017 and March 2018.

It says 40-year-old Selena Standifer of Brandon is accused of misusing more than $1,000 in cards in December 2015.

The attorney general’s office did not say whether either is represented by a lawyer. They turned themselves in to authorities in recent days after being indicted.

Transportation Director Melinda McGrath says the department gave information to the attorney general’s office.
