Conservative commentator Dinesh D’Souza sparked backlash Sunday after he compared 16-year-old Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg to Nazi propaganda.
“Children—notably Nordic white girls with braids and red cheeks—were often used in Nazi propaganda. An old Goebbels technique! Looks like today’s progressive Left is still learning its game from an earlier Left in the 1930s,” he tweeted, including a photo of the teen alongside a depiction of a woman in Nazi garb.
Mr. D’Souza, who has doubted climate change in the past, was widely condemned by critics, many of whom criticized him for going after a child and brought up his 2014 conviction of illegal campaign contributions that was pardoned by President Trump.
Ms. Thunberg became one of the faces of climate change activism in August 2018 when she began sitting in front of her Sweden’s parliament alone, calling for lawmakers to take action.
Her protests inspired Friday’s Global Climate Youth Strike, which drew an estimated 4 million participants across 163 countries and all seven continents.
