NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A U.S. Senate committee has voted to advance a plan to fund a new $189.1 million federal courthouse in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
A news release from Sen. Lamar Alexander says the Senate Appropriations Committee’s unanimous vote Thursday puts the proposal in position for a full Senate vote. The item is included in a larger federal spending bill.
Alexander says the new courthouse is the only solution to address significant operation, space and security deficiencies at Chattanooga’s current Joel W. Solomon Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse, which was built 86 years ago.
Alexander says the Judicial Conference of the United States has designated Chattanooga as a courthouse construction priority.
