The Nationals entered Labor Day with 27 games left in regular-season play — and 24 of those games will be against teams with a winning record through Sunday.
Washington (77-58) began a three-game series at home Monday with the New York Mets (69-67).
The rest of the schedule includes seven games against Atlanta (84-54), the first-place team in the National League East; three with first-place Minnesota (84-52); three with first-place St. Louis (76-60); three with last-place Miami (48-88); five with Philadelphia (70-65); and three with second-place Cleveland (79-58).
The Nationals play 14 of their last 27 games at home, where they are 40-27 before Monday’s game with the Mets.
Washington won its fourth straight game Sunday with a win over the Marlins. The Nationals entered Monday 5 1/2 back of the Braves and held the top wild-card spot while winning 19 of the last 24 games.
