LAS VEGAS (AP) - Authorities in Las Vegas say a tree trimmer escaped serious injury after he was freed from atop a palm where he had been removing dead fronds.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Las Vegas firefighters reached and rescued the man about 5:45 p.m. Sunday from a tree in a neighborhood east of downtown.

He was not hospitalized and his name was not made public.

The incident came nearly five years after two men in their 40s suffocated and died in December 2014 and January 2015 in similar but separate accidents while trimming palm trees in two North Las Vegas neighborhoods.

Officials warned at the time that deaths from suffocation can occur when palm fronds collapse over a trimmer’s head, pinning him to the tree.
