LOS ANGELES (AP) - A retired Los Angeles County sheriff’s lieutenant who tipped off a massage parlor about raids in exchange for sex has pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges.

The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office says David Smith claimed to conduct lawful inspections at West Hollywood massage parlors but actually went for sex and deterred law enforcement from checking the ones he frequented.

Prosecutors also say he warned the manager of one parlor that law enforcement might be nearby and advised her to close for the evening.

Smith entered pleas Thursday to one count of obstructing and delaying law enforcement and two counts of soliciting prostitution. He was sentenced to 150 hours of community service and ordered to stay away from massage parlors and spas.
