CENTRALL FALLS, R.I. (AP) - The board overseeing a Rhode Island detention facility is set to consider a contract to continue holding U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainees while also exploring the sale of the prison.
The proposal obtained by The Boston Globe would require Donald W. Wyatt Detention Facility in Central Falls to “maintain and perform in compliance with” a contract expanding the use of the prison to include ICE detainees.
The 770-bed facility is a nonprofit prison run by a quasi-public corporation where a prison guard apparently drove his truck through a group protesting the prison’s holding of ICE detainees last month.
The proposal also sets out to authorize the warden of Wyatt to “provide confidential information about the corporation to parties considering a sale, investment, or other affiliation with the corporation.”
