MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Full-time faculty at the Vermont State Colleges have voted to approve a new contract.
Union officials said in a statement Tuesday that the contract was ratified by 95% who voted and came after 16 months of negotiations.
The statement said “faculty understand the challenges facing the state college system and this vote shows that they are ready to do their part to help the VSC move forward.”
The Vermont State Colleges Board of Trustees is collecting comments on how to best face financial challenges of declining enrollment. VSC Chancellor Jeb Spaulding told WCAX-TV on Monday that those challenges could result in major structural changes, including possibly closing a campus.
The contract includes a 16% cut to retirement and no change to health care premiums.
