BURRILLVILLE, R.I. (AP) - The Rhode Island Soccer Association is calling for a high school whose students have been accused of racist behavior to be banned from sports competition for one year.

The Providence Journal reports some students from Burrillville High School allegedly directed taunts at another school’s team during a Sept. 24 volleyball game.

The soccer association called on the Rhode Island Interscholastic League to ban Burrillville in a Facebook post Saturday.

The reported taunts occurred during a girls’ match with Central Falls High.

Central Falls coach Richard Sousa and parent Maria Pedraza say they heard Burrillville students tell students of color from Central Falls to “go back to your own country.”

Burrillville Superintendent Michael Sollitto says the district investigated but declined to say what it found.

The Interscholastic League said it will conduct a review.
