Once again the Nationals could be facing the last nine innings of their season.
Washington lost 10-4 at home to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday and now trail 2-1 in the National League Division Series. The Dodgers can clinch with a win on Monday at 6:40 p.m. as Max Scherzer starts for the Nationals against Rich Hill of the Dodgers. The Nationals trailed in the wild-card game before beating the Milwaukee Brewers.
“I mean we were like that in the wild-card game, too,” Washington catcher Kurt Suzuki said after Monday’s game. “It is no different. A game is a game. You might as well go out and play hard. Whatever happens, happens. We just have to keep plugging away.”
The Nationals led 2-0 Sunday after a two-run homer in the first by Juan Soto.
But the Dodgers scored one in the fifth off Anibal Sanchez then scored seven in the sixth to take an 8-2 lead.
Patrick Corbin, normally a starter, was tagged with the loss.
“It stinks. I felt like I left these guys down,” Corbin said.
