Max Scherzer rose to the occasion again Monday, throwing 109 pitches while allowing just one run on four this in seven innings. His outing helped beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-1 and force Game 5 on Wednesday night in California in the NLDS.
“He left it all out there today,” Nationals pitching coach Paul Menhart said. “It was pretty special.”
Stephen Strasburg is slated to start for the Nationals on Wednesday. Menhart did not dismiss using Scherzer in Game 5.
“It would be worth discussing with him,” Menhart told The Washington Times late Monday. “I wouldn’t rule it totally out.”
“I doubt it,” said Scherzer, when asked if he could be used Wednesday. “I mean, my arm is hanging right now. That was, that, that pushed me all the way to the edge and then some. So, yeah, I can’t imagine any scenario where I’m pitching.”
