PAINESVILLE, Ohio (AP) - A woman whose car collided with a semi-trailer on an interstate outside Cleveland, killing one daughter and injuring another, has been charged with aggravated murder.

Court records show 38-year-old Kia Ferguson, of South Euclid, pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Lake County Common Pleas Court to aggravated murder, attempted aggravated murder and other charges. She was freed on bond.

Ferguson’s 10-year-old daughter was killed and she and her 6-year-old daughter were severely injured in the January collision on Interstate 90 in Mentor.

Lake County Prosecutor Charles Coulson on Saturday declined to say why a grand jury indicted Ferguson for aggravated murder, a charge indicating her daughter’s death was premeditated.

Defense attorney Carlos Johnson said he’s not seen the evidence prosecutors used to indict Ferguson and that the charges will be contested.
