LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A Kentucky jury has awarded $1.2 million in damages to a police lieutenant after she said the department failed to investigate and discipline a separate lieutenant who sent her sexually explicit photos.
The Courier Journal reports that Lt. Robert Shadle was suspended in 2016 without pay for 20 days for “conduct unbecoming of an officer” for texting photos to Lt. Jill Hume.
However, Hume sued the police department after alleging the commanding officers failed to take appropriate action.
The department’s spokeswoman declined to comment.
Attorney Thomas Clay said Hume was “beyond overjoyed.”
The Friday decision is the second significant verdict returned against Louisville Metro Police this week. On Wednesday, another jury awarded $2.25 million to a former University of Louisville student who said a detective wrongfully arrested her 12 years ago.
