AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Auburn is simultaneously hosting the Miss Alabama USA and Miss Alabama Teen pageants - a first for the city.
Nearly 60 pageant hopefuls were expected at this weekend’s event, The Opelika-Auburn News reported.
It is being held at the Gogue Performing Arts Center at Auburn University.
The crowning of the winners is set to take place on Saturday night.
The partnership with Auburn has been a long time coming, said Paula Miles, executive director for RPM Productions, Inc. The event had been held in Montgomery. Organizers had been searching for a new venue, and Auburn was among their top choices, Miles said.
“We just felt like the feel and the culture would be a nice change,” Miles said.
With the opening of the Gogue Center, the city reached out to the organization and a partnership was forged.
The pageant brings together women from across the state.
“I just feel like if people would take a moment and meet these young women they would find that they are simply extraordinary,” Miles said. “They’re just overall - to me - a step ahead. They set goals, they’re achieving their goals.”
