DETROIT (AP) - The remnants of a demolished house that belonged to a Michigan lawmaker have been traced to a landfill in suburban Detroit.
It’s the biggest development since Rep. Sherry Gay-Dagnogo reported that the Detroit house was mysteriously torn down in September. She and her nonprofit group were planning to rehab it for a needy family.
Waste Management spokeswoman Tanisha Sanders says the company knows who delivered the materials to a landfill in western Wayne County. The information is being shared with police. But Waste Management doesn’t know who was in charge of the demolition.
Gay-Dagnogo says she wasn’t told that the house would be razed. Detroit officials say they, too, knew nothing about it.
About 19,000 vacant houses in Detroit have been demolished since 2014.
