Stephen Strasburg will start Game 2 of the National League Division Series on Friday against the host Los Angeles Dodgers, Nationals manager Dave Martinez told reporters Thursday.
Strasburg allowed no runs on two hits in three innings as the Nationals came back to beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 in the National League Wild Card Game on Tuesday at Nationals Park, as he took over for starter Max Scherzer. He threw 34 pitches in that game.
Martinez said Thursday that Strasburg came to him and said he wanted the ball for Game 2 against the Dodgers. The NLDS opened Thursday in Los Angeles. Game 3 is Sunday night in Washington.
This will allow Strasburg to pitch Game 5 on Wednesday in Los Angeles, if the series goes that far. Strasburg has allowed just one earned run in his postseason career in 22 innings.
