BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Federal prosecutors say a Vermont woman has pleaded guilty to a federal charge that she embezzled more than $2.2 million from her Lyndonville employer over a 10-year-period.
Prosecutors say 49-year-old Jennifer Dwyer, of St. Johnsbury, entered the plea Friday in U.S. District Court in Burlington.
As bookkeeper for Northeast Agriculture Sales, Dwyer’s responsibilities included customer billing, handling company accounts, and the company’s payroll system.
Dwyer admitted that between 2007 and 2017, she embezzled the money through unauthorized electronic transfers of funds from the company’s payroll account to her personal checking account.
Prosecutors say Dwyer used the money for online gambling and to pay personal debts and expenses.
Dwyer has agreed to pay restitution. She is free pending sentencing, set for February.
Dwyer’s lawyer did not return a call seeking comment.
