Sam Darnold was so befuddled by the New England Patriots’ defense in last Monday’s game that the New York Jets quarterback said, “I’m seeing ghosts.”

The problem was, ESPN had Darnold mic’d up for the “Monday Night Football” broadcast and played the clip on TV, sending him viral before the 33-0 beatdown was even over.

The Jets’ opponent this week, the Jacksonville Jaguars, are seizing on the ghosts comment to heckle and tease the visiting quarterback.

In the strangest Adam Schefter scoop of all time, ESPN reported before the game that Jaguars players planned to shout “boo” at Darnold during the game.

A plane, supposedly arranged by Jaguars fans, flew a banner around TIAA Bank Field praising Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew II, saying, “Gardner Minshew ain’t afraid of no ghost!”

And the team dressed their mascot up for the occasion:

Happy Halloween, Sam.
