SALINA, N.Y. (AP) - A Syracuse woman charged with torching her former boyfriend’s house started a Facebook fundraiser for his family after the fire.

Natasha Benishek was arrested Friday on a second-degree arson charge in connection with an Oct. 15 fire that destroyed a house in Lyncourt.

Onondaga County sheriff’s deputies say Benishek’s ex-boyfriend lived in the house. They say people were home when the fire started. The human residents fled safely but two cats were killed.

Days before she was arrested, Benishek set up a Facebook fundraiser to raise money for the family. She said “My boyfriends mom and dads house was burnt down.” No one has donated to the fundraiser.

The Post-Standard of Syracuse first reported the fundraiser.

It’s not clear if Benishek has an attorney who can speak for her.
