The Houston Astros fired assistant general manager Brandon Taubman on Thursday, days after Sports Illustrated reported on his behavior toward three female reporters in the clubhouse following Game 6 of the American League Championship Series.
Taubman yelled in support of closer Roberto Osuna, who served a 75-game suspension last season for violating the league’s domestic violence policy. Osuna, when he was a member of the Toronto Blue Jays, was arrested in May 2018 but charges were later dropped.
According to SI and later multiple outlets, Taubman yelled, ““Thank God we got Osuna! I’m so [expletive] glad we got Osuna!” toward the women, one of whom was wearing a bracelet for domestic violence awareness.
The Astros faced intense scrutiny for their response to the incident, which included them calling the story “misleading and completely irresponsible.”
In a statement, the Astros apologized to Stephanie Apstein, the author of the story, and admitted they were wrong.
