STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) - Police in Connecticut say a 23-year-old man being detained following a domestic violence incident involving his mother went into medical distress and later died at the hospital.

The Stamford Advocate reports that the cause of death Wednesday is under investigation by the state medical examiner.

Acting police Chief Thomas Wuennemann says officers responded to a home in Stamford late Tuesday for a report of a domestic dispute between a mother and her son. By the time officers arrived, the man had fled. He was apprehended early Wednesday and faced domestic violence related charges.

At police headquarters the man had a medical emergency. He was taken to the hospital where he died.

His name hasn’t been released.
