PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Amtrak says it wants community input on expanding service in Maine.
Amtrak’s Downeaster passenger rail service asks for public input on if an expansion of its Portland area coverage is appealing to commuters.
Officials propose adding a stop in West Falmouth, a rail connection from Westbrook to Portland and a commuter rail between Lewiston-Auburn and Portland.
The Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority executive director Patricia Quinn says the service is looking to “add more value and mobility.”
Greater Portland Council of Governments transportation director Sarah Zografos says the Downeaster presents an opportunity to “take a look at their role in regional mobility around Greater Portland.”
The open house will be at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Merrill Rehearsal Hall in Portland.
