PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say one person is dead after a head-on car crash west of Phoenix that involved a deputy from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.

The deputy was taken to a hospital Monday with unspecified injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening, but authorities say one person in the other vehicle died at the scene and another was injured.

The name and age of the person who was killed wasn’t immediately released.

It’s unclear what led up to the head-on crash around 2 p.m. near 75th Avenue and Baseline Road, which is on the border between Phoenix and the Gila River Indian Community.

Tribal police are investigating the crash.
