PITTSFORD, Vt. (AP) - Vermont State Police say an officer was injured during firearms training at the police academy in Pittsford.
Police say Middlebury police officer Daniel Ailinger had accidentally discharged his firearm while removing it from his holster on Tuesday night. Officials say the 23-year-old suffered a non-life-threatening abrasion to his leg.
He was treated and released from Rutland Regional Medical Center and has returned to the police academy.
State police say the accident happened during a low-light firearms training which was supervised by certified firearms instructors.
