HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut hospital has become the first in Fairfield County to join one of the state’s largest medical groups.
Hartford HealthCare says Tuesday it has completed its acquisition of St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport.
The move established the company’s foothold in Fairfield County while challenging the influence of Yale New Haven Health System in the area.
The hospital has more than 450 beds and will become Hartford HealthCare’s second-largest hospital, behind Hartford Hospital.
With the addition of St. Vincent’s, Hartford HealthCare will now have more than 24,000 employees in more than 350 locations across the state.
The medical group has also recently affiliated itself with Bridgeport-based Visiting Nurse Services, which provide home and hospice care in Fairfield, New Haven and Litchfield counties.
