Last Tuesday, Daniel Hudson took video in the Nationals clubhouse for his family back home in Arizona, so they could see the celebration as the team clinched a playoff berth.

This Tuesday night, he FaceTimed with his family after an even more important victory, as he earned the save for the Nationals as they beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 in the National League Wild Card Game.

Hudson, a Virginia native from Old Dominion, got the last three outs and yelled with joy after center fielder Victor Robles retired the final batter with a catch near the warning track. Juan Soto had a two-run single and the third run scored on an error as Washington took the lead in the eighth.

“I really didn’t have time to think. I was warming up the whole inning,” said Hudson, who began the season with the Toronto Blue Jays and was acquired at the trade deadline. “I just went in there and tried to get three outs.”

The Nationals scored three runs in the last of the eighth to take over the lead and win.

Hudson told The Washington Times his wife is nine months pregnant with their third child. He is unsure if she or any family members will make the trip to Los Angles as the Nationals play Game 1 there Thursday against the Dodgers.
