If the Washington Nationals don’t sweep the St. Louis Cardinals with a Game 4 win Tuesday, what happens next could be up to Mother Nature.
Major League Baseball is prepared to retool its AL and NL Championship Series schedule due to storms coming to the Northeast that could affect the New York and Washington areas, ESPN reported.
Because of the likelihood Game 4 of the ALCS is a rainout, sources told ESPN that MLB would prefer to move the Nationals-Cardinals Game 5 to that night so they have a game in prime time. That game is currently scheduled for a 4:08 first pitch.
AccuWeather gives a 68% chance of precipitation in the District on Wednesday with rain totaling 1.16 inches, according to a Tuesday morning forecast. It’s worse in New York, where Wednesday night — when the Yankees and Houston Astros are scheduled to play Game 4 of the ALCS in the Bronx — there is an 85% chance of precipitation.
A rainout in New York would mean the Yankees and Astros would shift their Games 4 and 5 to Thursday and Friday, with a short travel turnaround to play a potential Game 6 in Houston on Saturday.
