MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Don’t look now, the Washington Redskins are two games back in the NFC East.
Sure, maybe Washington’s 17-16 win over the Miami Dolphins Sunday wasn’t the most inspiring victory — the Redskins needed to stop a two-point conversion with six seconds left to hold on — but things broke their way around the rest of the division.
The Minnesota Vikings smacked the Philadelphia Eagles in a 38-20 victory— with Kirk Cousins making linebacker Zach Brown have to eat crow for calling the quarterback the “weakest link” of Minnesota’s offense. Cousins threw four touchdowns in the win.
The Dallas Cowboys, meanwhile, lost 24-22 to the New York Jets. With his spleen now healthy enough to play, quarterback Sam Darnold made all the difference for the Jets, who also picked up their first win of the season.
The Cowboys and the Eagles fell to 3-3. The Giants are 2-2 after a Thursday night loss to the Patriots.
The bad news for the Redskins: They’re already 0-3 in the division to start the year. And they didn’t convincingly beat a team gunning for the No.1 pick.
But as the philosopher Kevin Garnett said, “anything is possible.”
Right, Josh Norman?
“We’re headed in the right direction now,” Norman said. “We have a win under our belt, that’s one down. So we have — what, 13, or whatever more to go? Or not 13 but 10? I don’t know. We’ve got a lot to go.”
Technically, the Redskins have 10 games left in the regular season. But hey, if the Redskins somehow make the playoffs, they’d have three postseason games (the divisional round, the NFC championship and the Super Bowl) to win it all, granted they earn the first-round bye.
Maybe, Norman was just counting those.
