HYDE PARK, N.Y. (AP) - Hillary Clinton has presented her daughter with the Eleanor Roosevelt Val-Kill award, which Clinton herself was awarded in 1995.

Chelsea Clinton was honored Sunday afternoon at the 32nd annual award ceremony at the Val-Kill estate where Roosevelt lived in Hyde Park. She said she writes children’s books for the same reason Roosevelt did - so children can understand human rights.

Val-Kill medals are awarded to people who embody Eleanor Roosevelt’s humanitarian values.

Zainab Salbi, founder of the humanitarian organization Women for Women International, was also honored. Awards were also presented to Hyde Park philanthropists John and Gloria Kidd Golden and Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, CEO of Celebrity Cruises and gender equity champion.

Past honorees besides Hillary Clinton include Gloria Steinem, Pete Seeger, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Tarana Burke.
