SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office has identified three deputies placed on administrative leave after a man died Saturday night while they attempted to subdue him.

The Spokesman-Review reports a woman in Newman Lake told law enforcement Saturday she was scared to go into her basement, where she said her son Sergey Rumyantsev was high on an unknown drug and barricaded in his bedroom, according to court documents.

Documents say Rumyantsev’s parents told deputies that Rumyantsev had a mental health condition and had been violent lately.

The sheriff’s office says it took deputies Phil Pfeifer, Veronica Van Patten and Travis West to subdue Rumyantsev and a stun gun was used on him. After he was handcuffed, the sheriff’s office says Rumyantsev stopped breathing and died at the scene, despite medical attention.

A toxicology analysis is underway and an investigation is ongoing.
