Max Scherzer’s start in the National League Wild Card Game didn’t go exactly as the Washington Nationals had hoped.

Down 3-1 and with the season on the line, Stephen Strasburg took over the mound in the sixth inning and got three quick outs thanks to a double play and a strikeout. It is Strasburg’s first time coming on in relief as a pro.

Scherzer finished the night with 5.0 innings pitched, three earned runs thanks to home runs given up in the first and second innings, six strikeouts and three walks.
