An Oregon KFC employee who walked six miles a day to get to and from work got the surprise of a lifetime last week, a new car gifted to her by the company.

“I went to work this morning and got surprised with a brand new car,” Crystal Lachance shared in a Facebook post. “Apparently my boss Miranda entered me in a drawing a few months ago, and I won this brand new car.”

Ms. Lachance, who is a single mother of an 8-year-old son, had to walk six miles round trip to get to her job.

According to Fox News, that dedication prompted her boss to nominate her for the company’s “Kentucky Fried Wishes” award — and she won, with the prize of a new car.

“This made my day,” Ms. Lachance added. “I have been struggling a lot this year, but haven’t [given] up and have been working very hard, I finally went in and got my permit and have been trying to save up to buy a car.”

The company will reportedly be paying for six months of her car insurance along with cutting down on the two-hour commute back and forth between work.

“Despite having fallen on hard times recently, Crystal continues to be very outgoing and willing to help others when needed,” a KFC spokesperson said to KDFW.
