PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Two men already serving life sentences on murder convictions in Rhode Island’s state prison were sentenced to another two years behind bars each for their roles in a plot to smuggle drugs into the facility.

The Providence Journal reports that 38-year-old Leron Porter and 41-year-old Alonzo Shelton pleaded no contest Tuesday to conspiring to violate the controlled substances law by bringing fentanyl, buprenorphine and marijuana into the Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston.

The Pawtucket woman they conspired with, 28-year-old Alexis Watkins, also pleaded no contest and received a five-year suspended sentence with probation.

Prosecutors say the defendants approached a guard to help them smuggle the drugs, but the guard reported the contact to prison officials.
