ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Maryland State Police say an investigation is continuing after a man was charged with impersonating a police officer.
A news release says 57-year-old James Coons of Frederick is also charged with driving with a visible red and/or blue lamp on his vehicle.
A preliminary investigation shows an off-duty trooper observed red and blue police lights on Oct. 30 on Maryland Rt. 26 and yielded to Coons. Once the lights were turned off, the trooper became suspicious and conducted a traffic stop.
State police say Coons was interviewed by the trooper following the stop and released. Charges were filed against Coons after consultation with the Frederick County State’s Attorney’s Office. The criminal summons was issued by the Frederick County District Court on Nov. 4.
Coons’ status couldn’t be determined on Tuesday.
