The Cleveland Browns waived safety Jermaine Whitehead Monday, one day after the player sent a series of tweets that included threats and a slur used to describe white people.
After the Denver Broncos defeated the Browns Sunday, Whitehead took aim at several people on the social media platform who criticized his performance. Whitehead played the game with a broken hand and at one point, Denver tight end Noah Fant easily broke through his attempt to tackle on his way to scoring a touchdown.
Whitehead’s account was suspended by Twitter sometime Sunday evening, but several of the messages in questions were saved via screenshot. The following contains graphic language:

The Browns gave this statement Sunday evening before deciding to go ahead and waive the player the next day:
“Jermaine Whitehead’s social media posts following today’s game were totally unacceptable and highly inappropriate. We immediately spoke with Jermaine upon learning of these comments. The Browns in no way condone that type of language or behavior. This matter will be further addressed internally.”
The 26-year-old has bounced around the NFL since 2015, but only ever suited up for games for the Green Bay Packers and Cleveland.
