LOS ANGELES (AP) - Authorities say a Los Angeles police officer is expected to recover after he was shot during an exchange of gunfire with an armed man.
The Los Angeles Police Department says on Twitter that gang unit officers stopped the man Friday evening in the Boyle Heights section of the city and he pulled out a gun and fired on the officers. It was not immediately clear why they stopped him initially; the interaction was described as “an investigative pedestrian stop.”
Police say the suspect - whose identity has not been released - was arrested and the gun was recovered at the scene.
LAPD spokesman Officer Mike Lopez says Saturday the suspect was not injured. Lopez says he did not have information about how many officers fired their weapons.
