NFL draft order: Redskins drop back into three-way tie

Certainly, Washington Redskins fans had to enjoy Sunday’s win over the Detroit Lions, the first time the home team won at FedEx Field since Oct. 21, 2018.

But accompanying that win was a slight step backwards in the projected order of the 2020 NFL Draft.

The Redskins improved to 2-9, while the New York Giants and Miami Dolphins both lost to fall to 2-9. If the season ended today, the Redskins would pick fourth, behind New York and Miami, both of whom have had an easier strength of schedule and therefore get higher picks by virtue of the tiebreaker.

Remember, it doesn’t matter that the Giants beat the Redskins or that the Redskins beat the Dolphins during the regular season. For draft order tiebreakers, it’s all about strength of schedule.

The Cincinnati Bengals nearly achieved their first win of the season, but the Pittsburgh Steelers made a quarterback change and came back for a close 16-10 win, making Cincinnati 0-11. The soft part of the Bengals’ schedule is coming up, with two games against the Browns and dates with the Dolphins and Jets, so Redskins fans praying for the No. 1 overall pick now have to hope that the Bengals win twice while Washington loses out.
