ATLANTA (AP) - Commute times drastically increased for some drivers hoping to head into Atlanta early Wednesday after a crash closed most of Interstate 85’s inbound lanes.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports drivers heading into the city from Lawrenceville were expected to see commute times of about four hours. Lawrenceville lies about 27 miles northeast of Atlanta. Google Maps estimated that the drive would take about an hour and a half as of 7:15 a.m., if drivers avoid the interstate closure.
The WSB traffic center said a multivehicle crash effectively closed the interstate just before 5 a.m. It said the miles of bumper-to-bumper traffic were also expected to lengthen commutes from Hall, Gwinnett and DeKalb counties.
