MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont labor officials say the state’s unemployment rate remained unchanged in October at 2.2 %.

That’s the same rate as in September, which was a slight increase from the month before.

Labor Commissioner Michael Harrington said in a written statement Tuesday that “demographics continue to be Vermont’s biggest challenge.” He says the jobs report “shows a continuation of the unprecedented low unemployment rate, prolonging the struggle for employers.”

Vermont’s unemployment rate of 2.2% compares to a national rate for October of 3.6%.

Around Vermont, the rate ranged from 1.3% in White River Junction and Burlington-South Burlington to 2.6% in Derby.
