PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - U.S. Rep. Jim Langevin has introduced a bill to strengthen career counseling in middle schools and high schools.
The Rhode Island Democrat said Thursday that he introduced the bill with Rep. Glenn Thompson, a Pennsylvania Republican, for National Career Development Week.
The bill, called the “Counseling for Career Choice Act,” aims to make new investments in school counseling to better prepare students for educational and career opportunities. It would provide grants to states to implement statewide career counseling frameworks that are developed with input from local educators, businesses and community leaders.
Langevin says the bill would leverage that input to improve career counseling. Thompson says effective counseling can help close the nation’s skills gap.
Langevin and Thompson lead the Congressional Career and Technical Education Caucus.
