CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Two seacoast-area New Hampshire hospitals that want to affiliate with Massachusetts General Hospital are launching a public-relations campaign aimed at overcoming the objections of state regulators.
Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover and Exeter Health Resources, which includes Exeter Hospital, announced an agreement earlier this year to create a new, not-for-profit organization that will serve as their parent company and will be part of the Mass General family.
Hospital officials said the affiliation would expand access to services.
In September, the attorney general’s office said the proposed merger is unlawful because it’ll likely lead to unfair competition for some health care services.
A Federal Trade Commission review is ongoing.
New Hampshire Public Radio reports the hospitals say they’ll be lobbying state lawmakers and making their case through print, radio and digital channels.
