PornHub was left scrambling this week after PayPal cut off all money transfers to the company’s users.

Now the pornography site’s “models,” who upload their own videos and earn advertising revenue via PayPal in the same way a person can monetize his YouTube channel, can no longer use the most popular electronic-transfer app.

“URGENT: PayPal has stopped all Pornhub model payouts,” PornHub announced on Twitter on Wednesday evening. “If you had PayPal as your payout method please change to direct deposit/SEPA, or payment by check in your settings.”

PayPal released a statement Thursday saying the decision came after PornHub “made certain business payments through PayPal without seeking our permission.”

PornHub released its own statement on Thursday.

“[We are] devastated by PayPal’s decision to stop payouts to over a hundred thousand performers who rely on them for their livelihoods,” the company wrote, Reuters reported.

PornHub is owned by Luxembourg-headquartered company MindGeek, which did not respond to the British news service’s request for direct comment.

Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this story attributed PornHub’s statement to MindGeek.
