WASHINGTON (AP) - Police say an off-duty police officer working as an apartment security guard was trying to same someone when he shot and wounded two people.

The Washington Post reports a police report made public Tuesday says the officer told authorities that he spotted two people pointing guns at a third person on Friday night. It says the officer believed the third person was in imminent danger, and so fired his service weapon to intervene, and the armed people ran away.

The police report says a man and a male teenager were later found wounded with injuries not considered to be life threatening. Police are trying to determine if the two wounded people were the same ones the officer saw armed with a shotgun and pistol.
