The Washington Spirit of the National Women’s Soccer League announced a partnership with D.C. United to play more home games at Audi Field in the next two seasons, making the stadium one of the Spirit’s regular home fields.
The Spirit will split their 12 home games in 2020 evenly among three sites: four at Audi Field, four at Maryland SoccerPlex and four at Segra Field in Leesburg, Virginia.
In 2021, the plan is to play seven home games at Audi Field and five at Segra Field, leaving behind the SoccerPlex in Boyds, Maryland, which the Spirit have called home since their first NWSL season in 2013.
Segra Field is home to Loudoun United FC, D.C. United’s USL affiliate.
The Spirit played one game at Audi Field in 2018 and two more this season, drawing as many as 19,871 fans for one match. The 20,000-capacity stadium that opened last year across from Nationals Park.
“Our objective for our players is to have them play on the biggest stage possible every single match,” Spirit owner Steve Baldwin said at a press conference. “Audi Field is that destination.”
2020 season tickets will be available in packages specific to the different venues.
