ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) - A Maryland man accused of killing his lover’s ex-boyfriend in Virginia last year has been found dead in his jail cell.

The Washington Post reports that Jitesh Patel was found unconscious and pronounced dead at an Arlington County jail on Monday morning.

Arlington County police are investigating. The sheriff’s office said the medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

Patel was awaiting trial after authorities said he shot, stabbed and choked 40-year-old John Giandoni to death in March 2018.

Prosecutors said Patel, a 43-year-old married father, had been having an affair with Giandoni’s ex-girlfriend.

Patel lived in Woodbine, Maryland, while Giandoni lived in Ballston, Virginia, just outside the nation’s capital.
