COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) - The widow of a co-founder of the Georgia insurance company Aflac has died.

Aflac announced that 90-year-old Jean Amos, the widow of Paul Amos, died Sunday.

Paul Amos was one of three brothers who in 1955 co-founded Aflac, the Columbus-based supplemental insurer.

Daniel P. Amos, the only son of Jean and Paul, is the company’s current chairman and CEO.

A statement provided by the company says Jean and Paul Amos married in 1948 in Milton, Florida, with Jean Amos confined to a tuberculosis sanatorium for nearly a year after giving birth to Daniel Amos. She worked side-by-side with her husband in their dime stores in Florida before becoming Aflac’s “greatest cheerleader.”

A funeral is scheduled Wednesday at St. Luke Methodist Church in Columbus, followed by a private interment.
