PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - The Transportation Security Administration has stopped two guns from going aboard planes on back-to-back days at the Portland International Jetport.
TSA officers found a 9mm handgun loaded with 12 bullets - including one in the chamber - in a Florida man’s knapsack when it went through an X-ray machine on Thursday. That incident happened a day after an X-ray machine detected a Maine woman’s loaded 9mm handgun.
Those are the only two guns that TSA officers in Portland have detected so far this year. In both cases, airport police confiscated the guns and detained the travelers for questioning. Neither person was charged.
The TSA says passengers are allowed to travel with firearms in checked baggage if the firearms are properly packaged and declared, and unloaded and locked.
