FRISCO, N.C. (AP) - After a number of swimming deaths in recent years, Cape Hatteras National Seashore will add another lifeguard stand.
The Virginian-Pilot reports that the new lifeguard stand will be at the Frisco swimming area. The new lifeguards will start there on Memorial Day and be posted there seven days a week. There are lifeguards at three other spots in the seashore.
The newspaper said the new lifeguard stand follows the deaths last year of five people swimming at beaches along the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The seashore runs for 60 miles and there are long stretches without homes or other structures.
