Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant avoided the injury everyone initially feared when he limped off Wednesday against the Houston Rockets. He suffered a calf injury, not an Achilles tear.
But according to The Athletic’s Tim Kawakami, Durant won’t play in Friday’s Game 6.
Coach Steve Kerr told Kawakami: “We can all pretend and just say he’s doubtful. But he’s not playing Game 6.”

Durant exited the game late in the third quarter and did not return. He suffered a non-contact injury, leading people to speculate that the 30-year-old tore his Achilles. If that had happened, the injury would have carried many ramifications — not only for the Warriors, but for the rest of the NBA, given Durant’s likely free agency this summer.

Without Durant, the Warriors still managed to beat the Rockets, taking a 3-2 lead in the series. It is unknown if Durant would be available for a possible Game 7 or Game 1 of the next round, should the Warriors advance.
