It may seem like the Nationals blow a lot of games in the seventh inning and eighth inning — because they have.

But their record wouldn’t be better if games ended after the seventh or eighth.

That is because the Nationals have posted a number of comeback wins in what has been a dreadful start.

Washington is 14-21 after a 6-0 loss on Tuesday at Milwaukee in a game that was scoreless going into the last of the seventh. If games ended after the seventh the Nationals would be 11-19-5 this year. If contests were halted after the eighth the team would be 10-18-7.

Tie games are the problem: The Nationals are 2-6 in games tied after six innings and 1-4 in games deadlocked after the seventh.

The Nationals are 10-2 when leading after six innings, 10-1 when ahead after seven and 10-0 with the edge after eight. The club is 2-13 when trailing after six, 3-16 when behind after the seventh and 1-17 when on the short end after eight.
